Music- In the Appalachian culture, folk music is the main style of music played and listened to throughout the mountains. Their folk style consists of many string instruments, such as the acoustic guitar, fiddles, mandolins, banjos, and ect. While it is folk music, it is almost like it’s own type of music, the Appalachian folk music. It’s derived from all of the different people who live in the Appalachians, like Irish and English people and more. Living out in the mountains can become very still and lonely, which is how music became such a large part of the culture. While sitting alone in their homes, people would turn to music to entertain themselves and it became a sweet escape. Folk music came to be in the 1920’s and is changing with the times, but still has it’s traditional folk roots.
Art- Like music, art is something that many Appalachian people express themselves through. Especially for people who have lived in the Appalachia region their whole life, art is something they continue to practice even after retirement. It is easy for the people who live there to turn to art, most people never have an actual job, and they live a very laid back life.
